Back to Sudbury for Third Year
Where has the time gone? It the end of August and we’re headed to Sudbury to move out oldest into a house with friends for his third year. After two years in residence and putting up with a less than desirable meal plan, Josh and his fiends found a house to live in, close by to school. Unfortunately, Covid had different plans. With all of the uncertainty as they finished their second year, they sadly decided not to rent the house in April. In mid summer, Laurentian University announced a fully online experience for the school year for many of their programs, but not all. Luckily, the house was still available and the friends were super excited to still have the opportunity to rent it for the year! In the end, all of the Laurentian programs were fully online, so it didn’t really matter where they lived, but Sudbury seemed like the best place, just in case they were called back for in-person learning.
So, at the end of August, we packed up the kid, Daisy, the car and Holly and headed to Sudbury to move him in.
As we usually do, we stopped in Deep River for a quick dog walk and then continued to Sudbury. It was so fun to meet a few of his roommates and help them move in! We spent the rest of the afternoon unloading and setting up his things - a relatively easy task, since the house came fully furnished!
As dinner time approached, we left Josh and his friends for the night. We needed some dinner, so we stopped at Fionn MacCool’s for a bite to eat. We ordered take out and hung out in the parking lot in Holly. When it was ready, we just ate in Holly, right in the parking lot! It was super easy.
We headed off to Walmart for an overnight stay and were surprised that we were the only ones there! Later in the evening, one or two other trailers arrived as well. I’m not sure if it was because we were there on a weekday or because we were travelling during covid times, but we’ve never seen the Walmart parking lot this empty!
In the morning, we picked up Josh, and while Chris was on a work call, Josh and I went grocery shopping to stock his fridge. As we were packing the groceries into the car, we saw another Airstream pulling into the parking lot! We grabbed some coffee and breakfast from Starbucks and then went to drop him back at his new home.
We loaded his fridge and cupboards, said our goodbyes and got back on the road. With a brief stop in Deep River again, we arrived home around dinner time, down a kid (young adult!) for another year!

We were only away for one night, so didn’t pay much attention to our systems. I have no idea how much battery power we used. We travelled with a full fresh water tank but since we didn’t shower, we didn’t use much of it, except to use the bathroom. We didn’t use many dishes, as we didn’t really cook - any dishes we used, we saved until we arrive home and washed them then. Our grey/black tank had loads of space for us to use the bathroom for our time on the road. We planned to dump only when we arrived at our next campground in a few weeks time.
